Numerical Analysis of Pillar Stability in Longwall Mining of Two Adjacent Panels of an Inclined Coal Seam

Longwall mining is one of the most widespread methods globally. During preliminary development working, coal seam sectioned into panels divided by protective pillars. The pillars are necessary for maintaining service life underground mines, a highly productive stope, and personnel safety. In this work, we apply finite-difference continuum damage mechanics approach to modeling stress–strain evolution rock mass during extraction two adjacent longwall an inclined seam. A new modification accumulation kinetic equation proposed. numerical-modeling accounts explicit number numerous factors affecting behavior. These gravity forces, lithology, tectonic stresses, natural discontinuities, geotechnical, parameters. When model parameters calibrated against in situ observations, results provide reliable basis pillar stability assessment. We build structural containing working based on simplified stratigraphy Kondomsky deposit, Kuznetsk basin, Russia. Based numerical modeling, analyzed. technique extending classical analysis proposed verified field data.
